Error connecting to source machine

Hi folks,

I have added a source machine (Windows Server 2008 32-bit) to my source farm and the Network Status in the General tab shows "Computer available", but when I click Refresh I get the following error:

Error from Component
visionapp.vCCCommonLib.ExceptionHandler.vCCException
Unable to analyze the IP/MAC addresses of the computer: 200832BITSRC1

More details:
The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)(System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException)
User: administrator@cslab.local

StackTrace:
at visionapp.vBM.Analyse.CWMI.GetNetworkAdapters(AddressParameter clsParameter)
at visionapp.vBM.Analyse.CAnalysing.ServerAnalyseInfos_RefreshDialog(ITreeNodeItem clsServer, AddressParameter& clsAddress, ResourceManager StringResources)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Simon.

RE: Error connecting to source machine

Hi Simon,

please check if the account which is running the console has permissions to log on to the source machine.

If not, you should create a special account (menu administration) with the credentials for this machine. You have to map this account on farm level.

Perhaps this helps
Siggi

RE: Error connecting to source machine

Hello,

I tried adding an account as you suggested, but now the Refresh button is disabled (see attached screenshot). Am I missing something here?

The options on the WDS tab are also disabled, so it doesn't look like OpsQuick is able to talk to my source machine.

I should also mention that both the OpsQuick server and the Source machine are on the same Windows domain and I'm logged in to both with the same domain admin account.

RE: Error connecting to source machine

Sorry, I noticed that I need to click the "Edit Exclusively" button before I can make changes to the source machine.

I did that (with a domain administrator account defined under Administration > Special User Accounts) but I'm still getting the "Unable to analyze the IP/MAC addresss ... RPC server unavailable" error.

I don't think this sounds like like a permissions issue. Have you tested connecting to a Windows Server 2008 (SP2) source machine? Are there firewall or other RPC settings that need to be configured on the source machine to allow the WDS/OpsQuick server to talk to it?

RE: Error connecting to source machine

One more item of information - when I try to do an image capture on my source machine I get the attached error. Unfortunately it doesn't tell me much of use other than "WDS job failed".

Additionally I have tried setting a couple of other Server 2008 machines and on some of them the "Refresh" button works fine - e.g. the IP address and MAC are populated. On others I get the same RPC Server error.

RE: Error connecting to source machine

Well turning off Windows Firewall on the source machine seems to resolve this issue.
